Red Jamaican Mushroom Scotch Bonnet peppers are small, flattened pods that have a round wrinkled shape. They are considered hot peppers as they average 100,000 to 200,000 Scoville Heat Units, which is similar to the Habanero pepper. Red Jamaican Mushroom peppers are predominately used in the Caribbean, especially in Jamaica, to make hot sauce and jerk seasoning. The peppers are descents of peppers that were brought into the Caribbean centuries ago by immigrants from Central and South America. The peppers were then traded by Spanish and Portuguese explorers, who also brought them to the United States, Europe, and Asia.
