Created by Laurent Minet from Belgium, the Zebrange pepper is a cross between the Aji Fantasy and Christmas Bell (also known as Bishop’s Crown). The most striking feature of the Zebrange pepper is its appearance as the peppers ripen to orange and have red stripes on them, similar to the Sugar Rush Stripey. The Zebrange pepper has a low to medium heat level, similar to a mild Jalapeno, and a sweet fruity flavor with some tropical notes, somewhat like the Aji peppers. Although it has not officially been tested, the Zebrange pepper is believed to be around 5,000 to 10,000 Scoville Heat Units.
Zebrange peppers have become popular for their ornamental value and can be used as a decorative and mildly spicy addition to salads, salsas, and pickled dishes. They can also be stuffed with cheese, meat, or other fillings. The Zebrange pepper is appreciated not only for its culinary uses but also for its attractive and unusual shape, making it a favorite among gardeners who enjoy growing unique pepper varieties.
