Scoville Heat Units (SHU):
50,000 – 100,000

The Sugar Rush Red pepper is a variant of the Sugar Rush Peach, a variety that was developed by Wales pepper grower Chris Fowler. The heat level is significant, but not overbearing. The Sugar Rush Red pepper starts off sweet and fruity with notes of apricot, peach, and citrus, but finishes with the heat of a mild Habanero. The delicious blend of citrus tang and medium spice make it a great pepper for salsa and hot sauce. Sugar Rush Red peppers have a more wrinkled appearance compared to Sugar Rush Peach, but the peppers have a very similar heat level. The Sugar Rush Red pepper averages about 50,000 to 100,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), which is not quite as hot as the Habanero pepperbut hotter than the Thai pepper and the Pequin pepper.

The peppers, which grow to about three inches in length, start off green and mature to a red color. Although the plants are fast growing, the pods take longer to mature to red compared to most varieties. A third member of the Sugar Rush family, the Sugar Rush Stripey, has a similar heat level and flavor profile.
