Created by crossing the Red 7 Pot Bubblegum and Ghost (Bhut Jolokia) pepper, the Red Bubblegum Bhut Jolokia pepper is a very rare pepper that is considered a superhot. It is extremely unique because of the bleeding of orange color that moves from the pepper through the stem. Unlike most Bubblegum varieties, this particular variety produces pods that have the look of a Ghost (Bhut Jolokia) pepper. The exotic appearance of the color bleeding up the stem along with the extreme heat level has resulted in Bubblegum peppers surging in popularity. Similar to other Bubblegum peppers, the Red Bubblegum Bhut Jolokia’s flavor is fruity, sweet, and slightly citrusy, but its extreme heat comes on fast. Once the pod has matured into a deep red, the stem turns red. The appearance of the Red Bubblegum Bhut Jolokia pepper is similar to the Naga Viper, but it has a red calyx and stem. It's closely related to the Orange Bubblegum Bhut Jolokia.
The Red Bubblegum Bhut Jolokia pepper’s heat is somewhat similar to that of the Ghost pepper as it averages about 800,000 to 1,100,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). Although the Red Bubblegum Bhut Jolokia is considered a superhot pepper, it still ranks behind the Carolina Reaper pepper.
