Scoville Heat Units (SHU):
5,000 – 30,000

The Rainbow Caterpillar pepper was developed at Innovation Acre and is a variant of the Peach Aribibi Gusano Caterpillar. The two peppers are very similar in appearance, but the Rainbow Caterpillar develops pink and purple blushing as the pepper ripens. The hot pepper has a fruity flavor to complement its hot heat level. The pepper plant will grow to be about two to three inches tall and produces worm-like peppers that start off green, develop pink and purple blushing, and eventually ripens to pinkish peach. They have a strong citrus flavor and the plant itself is very high yielding. Although it has not officially been tested on the Scoville scale, it has a very similar heat level to the Peach Aribibi Gusano Caterpillar pepper, which averages about 5,000 to 30,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).

    Great Chile

Posted by Paula Gomez on 25th Jan 2024

I have fallen in love with this chile. It was very easy to grow (which Tyler Seeds have a very high germination rate for me) and such a different looking chile. It produced a ton of chiles and everyone who tried them LOVED the flavor. I will be keeping this one in my garden for sure. I did notice it is not a big fan of direct sun all day (live in Southern California) but had at the edge of my covered patio and did FABULOUS.

    Very pleased

Posted by David Wilson on 5th Nov 2023

Bought the live plant. It started a little slow because I wasn't watering it enough (soil was draining too well) but it eventually took off.. Peppers go from light green, to half green half purple, to full on pink/pinkish orange. Plant was bushy and grew kinda wide. Peppers were hot.. But more spicy I felt. I made lots of good fermented hot sauce. I recommend this pepper.
