The taste of the Padrón pepper is described as nutty, sweet, and earthy. The Padrón pepper is commonly pan fried or charred, creating a delicious smoky flavor. Padrón peppers range in length from to two to four inches and have grooved skin. They also have a curved shape similar to a Jalapeño. They ripen from green to red, but the unripe green pepper is the most popular.
Padrón peppers range from 500 to 2,500 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). The heat level is similar to the Hatch Green Chile pepper and the Cubanelle pepper. Like the Shishito pepper, about one in every ten or so peppers will fire up someone’s mouth as some Padrón peppers can be much hotter than others. It makes Padrón peppers a lot of fun to eat!
