The Orange Manzano pepper has a medium heat level and a delicious fruity flavor. The Orange Manzano pepper has an apple-like shape with thick walls. The pepper’s thick walls make the Manzano seem similar to a smaller version of the Orange Bell pepper, but Manzano peppers are more flavorful and spicier. Popular in salsa and hot sauce, the Manzano pepper has a refreshing citrus flavor and a mild to medium heat level.
Like the Irish Shrub pepper, the Manzano is one of the few peppers that can thrive in a cool environment. Native to the Andes, the Manzano pepper averages between 12,000 to 30,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), which makes it about twice as hot as the Jalapeño pepper. Serrano peppers and Chile de Arbol peppers have a similar heat level to the Manzano pepper.
