The Golden Nugget pepper is a beautiful pepper that starts out green, turns a very dark patchy purple, and then ripens to a golden orange. Martha Perry, a pepper grower in Pontiac, Michigan, developed the variety. The Golden Nugget is a small, lantern-shaped pepper with a medium heat level, as it averages about 35,000 to 50,000 Scoville Heat Units. It’s a fruity flavored little pepper with a bit of heat that can be used fresh or dried. It can be infused in vinegar or tossed into a mixed vegetable pickle for a little kick of heat. The high yielding plants grow about a foot and a half tall and develop light splashes of white variegation with purple purple flowers.
