After surviving the great freeze of 1913, it was given the name Fuerte, the Spanish word for “strong.” The Fuerte tree is one of the most cold-hardy varieties of avocado.
Avocado trees are more likely to produce a viable crop if a second Avocado tree is nearby. Hass Avocados are Type A and Fuerte Avocados are Type B. The other tree should be the type to complement the existing tree. For instance, if you are growing a Type A Avocado, Type B trees are recommended to help pollination.
